Packing Cubes in plain terms

A packing cube set is bought once and then judged for years, so the only question worth asking up front is what is actually in the box. There are four layouts here and the piece count alone does not tell you which is bigger. The eight-piece set is six cubes in three graduated sizes plus a drawstring laundry bag and a hanging toiletry bag. The ten-piece keeps those six cubes and adds a shoe bag and an accessory pouch.

The nine and eleven-piece layouts are a different design rather than a larger one. Both carry five bags - toiletry, makeup, laundry, shoe and accessories - but the nine-piece has only four cubes, in four sizes, while the eleven-piece has six. So a nine-piece set holds less clothing than an eight-piece one and sorts more of the small things. That is the single most useful sentence in this section, and no listing anywhere states it.

Within a layout, the colourways are the same product. That is worth saying plainly: a colour is not a specification. What it does buy is the ability to tell your packed cube from the one belonging to whoever else is using the case, which on a shared trip matters more than any fabric claim. The one genuine functional split is ventilation, where the floral ten-piece carries the largest mesh area in the range at more than a thousand holes.
